What is it?

What a Dilemma is a participatory methodology designed to create a space for deep listening, reflection, and dialogue around a real personal dilemma with a community impact. Through silence, meaningful questions, and active listening, participants co-create new perspectives that inspire action, collaboration, and transformation. It’s a hands-on experience of collective learning and a living tool for building a culture of peace.

more about us

Who is it for?

Anyone with an open heart and a willingness to be part of a meaningful dialogue aimed at exploring and supporting the resolution of a real-life community-related dilemma. It is especially suited for students, educators, and professionals in secondary and higher education settings.

How and where did it begin?digital

It arises from a young chilean changemaker from the Vocation and Profit Village of The Economy of Francesco, who sought to address the problem she observed: education through theories often fails to build bridges of collaboration with the practical learning challenges of everyday life, both inside and outside of EOF. Inspired by Pope Francis’ call at the beginning of 2022 during the celebration of the 55th World Day of Peace — “Dialogue Between Generations, Education and Work: Tools for Building Lasting Peace” — and her experience in different intercultural and dialogical learning environments, she recognized the need for a methodology that tests theoretical thinking in practice.

During 2022, this methodology was created and refined by an interdisciplinary, intergenerational, and intercultural team. It was piloted and tested eight times: five online and three in person. Participants came from countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, England, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Peru, Poland, the United States, and Venezuela. With over 200 participants, the results exceeded expectations, including positive perceptions from both presenters and participants, increased connection among members, and a collaborative atmosphere.
